A brief history of the area

Camperdown's story begins in 1865 when the town was laid out on a farm which was also named Camperdown. In 1880, the railway lines connecting the area to Botha's Hill and Pietermaritzburg were completed. Camperdown's waterworks were completed in 1901.

The warmest months are January to March when the daily temperature ranges between an average minimum of 18°C and maximums of approximately 30°C. The days remain warm in winter when maximum temperatures tend to be about 24°C. Winter nights, however, are cold, dropping well below the 10°C mark.
