A brief history of the area

Botha's Hill's origins are as mysterious as the networks of hills that make up the area. Some say Botha's Hill is named after one of the first settlers, Philip Rudolph Botha. He was the grandfather of General Louis Botha, the first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa. Another theory points to Cornelis Botha, the first harbour master of Durban. He opened an inn (The Halfway House) in the area which took on his namesake.

On a summer's day in Botha's Hill, the temperature often climbs into the high 20s or low 30s, giving residents gorgeous warm days and cooler evenings. During the coldest months of the year, which are typically between June and August, Botha's Hill locals can expect cool days and chilly evenings, with minimums dipping under 10°C and maximums reaching the teens or low 20s.

For more serious shopping, Hillcrest is only nine minutes away. Here you can get some retail therapy at Hillcrest Corner, the Colony Centre, Richdens Village Shopping Centre, and Hillcrest Centre. King Shaka International Airport is 63,5 km away from Assagay. Your trip will take you about 49 minutes via the N3 and N2.
