A brief history of the area
Crestholme was formally developed by the Hillcrest Estate Agency between 1959 and 1967. Most of the area was divided into smallholdings. There were several poultry farms and livery stables.
In 1967, George Rowles began to develop Waterfall as a residential area with a shopping complex. The first flats built in Waterfall were above the shopping complex. This was completed in 1986.
Climate
If temperate weather makes you happy, Crestholme is a great place to call home. The hottest months of the year here are typically from December to March, when days are likely to reach high temperatures in the high 20s or low 30s, dropping to the high teens or low 20s at night. The weather remains mild in winter, with maximums in the high teens or low 20s and minimums sometimes dropping below 10°C.

There are many well-run institutions of learning situated in Crestholme. They include Forest View Primary School, Waterfall College, and Thomas More College.
Curro Hillcrest is also a popular choice for parents and students. The school is known to provide high-quality education to learners from Grade R to Grade 12.

The 44 000 sqm mall is located in Waterfall and is easily accessible to both the N3 and M13.

The King Shaka International Airport is 62 km away from Crestholme. This journey will take a 48-minute drive via the N2.

Residents in the area have a great selection of eateries to choose from. The Crinkley Bottom Park is a stone throw away from Crestholme. The Watercrest Mall has more of the popular franchises such as Wimpy, Steers, John Dory's, and Spur.

1. Krantzkloof Nature Reserve
Situated only 9 km from Crestholme, the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve was established by the Natal Parks Board in 1950. Boasting an abundance of flora and fauna, the reserve offers visitors spectacular views across the well-forested gorge cut by the Molweni River. An added attraction is the well-developed picnic area adjacent to the dam at the head of Kloof Falls. Most of the Krantzkloof Nature reserve's 532 hectares is covered by dense forest and vegetation.
2. Waterfall Equestrian Centre
Established in 2017, the Waterfall Equestrian Centre overlooks the hills of Waterfall and Crestholme. Offering the most spectacular views, both children and adults can enjoy a variety of casual or competitive horse riding lessons. There are also trail rides and pony camps.
The equestrian centre was inspired by Louise Ann Mitchell who completed her Horse Mastership Course. She was a long-standing instructor at New Market Stables and the KZN Special Olympics Coach for two years running.
3. duBoirs
The duBoirs Boutique Lodge, Wedding & Conference Venue, is ideally situated in the scenic area of the Valley of 1000 Hills.
