Crestholme at a glance

Crestholme is a tranquil suburb that boasts beautiful landscapes and an array of attractive houses, open plots, smallholdings, and holiday homes. 

The charming wonders of nature have also chosen to call Crestholme their home. It is a bird watcher's heaven. There are plenty of bird species to be found here, soaring overhead, or sitting idly in the bushes and branches.

A brief history of the area

Crestholme was formally developed by the Hillcrest Estate Agency between 1959 and 1967. Most of the area was divided into smallholdings. There were several poultry farms and livery stables. 

In 1967, George Rowles began to develop Waterfall as a residential area with a shopping complex. The first flats built in Waterfall were above the shopping complex. This was completed in 1986. 

Climate

If temperate weather makes you happy, Crestholme is a great place to call home. The hottest months of the year here are typically from December to March, when days are likely to reach high temperatures in the high 20s or low 30s, dropping to the high teens or low 20s at night. The weather remains mild in winter, with maximums in the high teens or low 20s and minimums sometimes dropping below 10°C.

Schools in the area

There are many well-run institutions of learning situated in Crestholme. They include Forest View Primary School, Waterfall College, and Thomas More College. 

Curro Hillcrest is also a popular choice for parents and students. The school is known to provide high-quality education to learners from Grade R to Grade 12.

Healthcare in the area

The Busamed Hillcrest Private Hospital is a quick 18-minute drive from Crestholme. Other trusted medical facilities in the area are the Highway Sub-acute and Rehabilitation Hospital, Medicross Medical Centre, and Life Healthcare.

Shopping centres

Watercrest Mall is a preferred choice for residents in Crestholme. The mall has over 130 stores and eateries, ensuring a convenient shopping experience. Residents enjoy shopping at Woolworths, Spar, Checkers, Game, and Dischem. Special features include a much-needed Ster Kinekor movie theatre and family-oriented food court. The 44 000 sqm mall is located in Waterfall and is easily accessible to both the N3 and M13. 

Other nearby shopping facilities include the Delcairn Lifestyle Centre, Christians Village Shopping Centre, Kloof Village Mall, Link Hills Shopping Centre, Fields Hill Shopping Centre, Hillgate Shopping Centre, as well as the Hillcrest Corner Shopping Mall. 

Distance from key points (Airport/CBD)

The King Shaka International Airport is 62 km away from Crestholme. This journey will take a 48-minute drive via the N2.

Restaurants

Residents in the area have a great selection of eateries to choose from. The Crinkley Bottom Park is a stone throw away from Crestholme. The Watercrest Mall has more of the popular franchises such as Wimpy, Steers, John Dory's, and Spur. 

Special attractions

There are many special attractions in and around Crestholme. The Krantzkloof Nature Reserve, Waterfall Equestrian Centre, duBoirs Boutique Lodge, and Crinkley Bottom Park are amongst the favourites.

1. Krantzkloof Nature Reserve

Situated only 9 km from Crestholme, the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve was established by the Natal Parks Board in 1950. Boasting an abundance of flora and fauna, the reserve offers visitors spectacular views across the well-forested gorge cut by the Molweni River. An added attraction is the well-developed picnic area adjacent to the dam at the head of Kloof Falls. Most of the Krantzkloof Nature reserve's 532 hectares is covered by dense forest and vegetation.

2. Waterfall Equestrian Centre

Established in 2017, the Waterfall Equestrian Centre overlooks the hills of Waterfall and Crestholme. Offering the most spectacular views, both children and adults can enjoy a variety of casual or competitive horse riding lessons. There are also trail rides and pony camps. 

The equestrian centre was inspired by Louise Ann Mitchell who completed her Horse Mastership Course. She was a long-standing instructor at New Market Stables and the KZN Special Olympics Coach for two years running. 

3. duBoirs

The duBoirs Boutique Lodge, Wedding & Conference Venue, is ideally situated in the scenic area of the Valley of 1000 Hills. The estate offers visitors a sanctuary to rejuvenate one's mind, body, and soul. The venue's perfectly manicured gardens, enhanced by the soothing sounds of the cascading nearby waterfall, provides an elegant and sophisticated backdrop for the perfect getaway or special occasion. 

4. Crinkley Bottom Park

Crinkley Bottom Park is situated on the banks of the Nkutu River.
