The Upper Highway area's Christmas markets ceased operating when the Covid epidemic spread around the world. Residents will be able to spend a fun-filled day or night this year with their loved ones while feasting on delicious meals and enjoying top-notch entertainment. With so many Christmas markets scheduled for the month of December, many locals will almost surely attend more than one market this year to support local businesses and charity groups.

​​In 1298, the first Christmas market was documented. The residents of Vienna conducted a Krippenmarkt during Advent, also known as the December Market. The first Christkindlmarkt in Germany was held in 1384, almost a century later. The eastern hilltop town of Bautzen, Saxony, hosted this outdoor winter street market.

These early marketplaces initially solely offered meat. Later, they expanded to incorporate standard purchases, festive foods, decorations, and crafts. The marketplaces were noted for being upbeat, with singing and dancing at every turn.

The weekly market at the Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market now has a festive flair. A children's activity tent will be located in the Village, and Blarney & Son will also play on the main stage. At their booth, Glass on Fire will sell lovely bracelets made of sterling silver and enamel. Grow light Forever will have all the holiday scents covered with their body butter, merry-smelling candles, and wax melts.

Bring your picnic baskets so you may take advantage of the market's joyful atmosphere while indulging in the enormous selection of gourmet foods and snacks available from the numerous vibrant food vendors.

The Durban Regiment Pipe Band will kick off the evening, followed by Belinda Dolphin who will organize and direct the Carol singing. Kimona Kisten will also perform, and the event will come to a stunning conclusion with a fire dance by Gareth Greaves.

There will be delicious food and beverages for sale. Dogs on leads are welcome, and the cost is R40 per person, which includes a candle. Children under the age of 12 can attend for R20.
